Ohio ACEP Councillor Candidate

Dr. Laura Espy-BellLaura Espy-Bell, MD

Blacklick, Ohio

Dr. Laura Espy-Bell first developed an interest in emergency medicine when she was 11 years old after watching a program on The Learning Channel. She decided then to dedicate her life to becoming a physician. She attended Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Pre-Medicine. Next, Dr. Espy-Bell attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she received her Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) and subsequently pursued a graduate fellowship at Emory Healthcare. It was there, under the direction of the CEO, where she learned how to become a leader in healthcare. She had the opportunity to serve as an interim hospital administrator for a 100-bed geriatric hospital, execute hospital operations, and learn to effectively lead a group of healthcare professionals toward a common goal. Dr. Espy-Bell graduated from The Ohio State University Medical School in 2011 and completed her residency in the Department of Emergency Medicine in 2014. She currently works with Mid-Ohio Emergency Services which provides emergency care at a number of hospitals and free-standing emergency departments in Columbus.

Over the past year, Dr. Espy-Bell had the opportunity to participate in the Ohio ACEP Leadership Development Academy. As a result, Dr. Espy-Bell was able to see firsthand all the work that the Ohio Chapter does to advocate on behalf of emergency medicine and provide resources to all EM physicians in Ohio. Dr. Espy-Bell is ready to use her voice to advocate for her specialty and believes her background in both administration and in clinical medicine will add a valuable perspective to Ohio ACEP’s Council delegation.
